fear that you want to overcome?

If there was something that I could relate to as 'fear' it would be loneliness. It's a symptom that is more prevalent today in a society that is more about the 'self' than community. I'm lucky to be in a place where loneliness is not an issue, I enjoy socialising, but I also enjoy my own company; though I do operate an open-door policy, so if anyone knocks at my door, I will always invite them in and offer tea or coffee. There are so many people out there that are not so lucky, and I can empathise to a degree with what they must be feeling. We live in a different world nowadays to what it was like when I was growing up.

I'm really struggling with my phobia of dogs at the moment.

I walk on beaches quite a lot and people bring their dogs there and I get really nervous if they are not on their leads or come near.

I can relate to this. I was attacked by a dog as a child and had some real problems with them growing up.

Absolutely, a fear of dogs is very common, and it's completely understandable. I love dogs, but I've also been around them my whole life. Big dogs still scare me at times, and their boundless enthusiasm can absolutely be troubling.

Glad its not just me. I think I was knocked over by a dog when I was a child and its stayed with me ever since. I think my Mother is quite nervous around them too and I picked it up from her.

I love dogs, have had a dog for most of my life; three dogs in total over a period of about 45 years. Dogs are like people, varied in temperament and behaving the way they have been brought up and treated. The love you get from a dog is unconditional, providing it's reciprocated. I'm extremely aware that certain breeds are not good to have as pets, they tend to be bred for attack and protection, so not your typical household friend. If you approach a dog without fear and be openly kind, they will normally respond in kind, though you need to be aware as to when to back off and leave well alone as dogs can sense your fear and trepidation. This is something you gain from the experience of keeping a dog.

I'd love another but I'm not physically capable of looking after another.
