I'm running 2.3 on my newest site and search is not working. I tried a few searches on this site, and it's not working here either. Likewise, I've raised this on XF to see if this is happening universally and whether there is a solution, either now or in a future update. Give it a try and see if it works for you; it's a bit inconsistent, but generally a search from the forum index will result in no search results being returned.
 
This is confirmed, a bug in xf 2.3 due to direct message searching filtering out the results wrongly.

Fingers crossed it will be fixed in the next beta. :D

XF2.3 feedback and comments

at some point, you need to let users have at it because (a) they are highly likely to find stuff you missed and (b) user environments are going to be much more complex than any dev or QA can be. Custom work, different combinations of add-ons, and so on. Precisely my point, for those who'd argue...
