Crisis Support

If you're struggling, feeling overwhelmed or worried that you may not be able to keep yourself safe, support is available. You do not have to deal with everything on your own.

TalkMH is a peer-support community, not an emergency service.

Our members and moderators can offer support and listen, but TalkMH cannot provide emergency intervention, crisis counselling, medical treatment or immediate safeguarding. Posts and reports may not be seen immediately.

If you are in immediate danger

If you believe you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services now.

Emergency services Call the emergency number for your country or go to your nearest emergency department.

Emergency numbers vary between countries. If you do not know which service to contact, use the international support directory below.

Find crisis support in your country

TalkMH is an international community, and crisis services differ from country to country.

Find A Helpline provides verified crisis and emotional-support services in countries around the world. You can choose your country and find available phone, text, chat or other support options.

If you can stay safe for now

If you are not in immediate danger, there are things you can do to make the next few minutes a little safer.

Move somewhere you feel safer, particularly if you are alone.
Stay with someone you trust, or ask someone to stay with you.
Put some distance between yourself and anything you could use to hurt yourself.
Contact someone you trust and tell them that you are struggling.
Contact a healthcare professional or local support service when you can.
If talking feels difficult, send someone a message instead.

You can also talk to us

TalkMH exists so people can talk about mental health without having to pretend everything is fine.

You can share what you are going through, ask for support, or simply talk to other people who understand what difficult days can feel like.

Just remember: TalkMH should not be your only source of support during a crisis. If you need urgent or emergency help, please use an appropriate crisis or emergency service.

Talk to the community

Worried about someone else?

You do not need to have all the answers to support someone who is struggling.

If someone has told you that they are thinking about suicide, self-harm, or seriously hurting themselves or someone else, take what they have said seriously.

Encourage them to contact an appropriate crisis service, healthcare professional or someone they trust.

If you believe there is an immediate risk to life, contact the emergency services for the country where the person is located.

If you see concerning content on TalkMH, you can also use the Report function to bring it to the attention of the moderation team.

Important Reporting a post is not a substitute for contacting emergency services. Moderators may not see reports immediately.

What TalkMH can and cannot do

We can

  • Provide a place for people to talk about mental health.
  • Offer peer support and understanding.
  • Allow members to share their experiences.
  • Moderate content that breaches our rules.
  • Act on reports where appropriate.

We cannot

  • Provide emergency intervention.
  • Provide medical diagnosis or treatment.
  • Replace professional mental health services.
  • Guarantee that a post or report will be seen immediately.
  • Guarantee that moderators will be available at any particular time.

You don't have to figure everything out right now.

If you're struggling, the most important thing is getting through the next step safely.

Reach out to someone. Make the call. Send the message.

Asking for help is not a failure.
