Ways to fight hormonal insomnia?

I'm not sure which of my hormones are doing it (I had a thyroidectomy about 4 years ago and am age 55) but for the past 2 weeks I've had insomnia and I have never had it like this before. It's like my body isn't tired but I know I need rest. I'll be getting my thyroid numbers tested again soon if this doesn't let up but what kinds of things can I do to help get out of this and fall asleep?

I hate to suggest something like this, but have you considered eating something that's known to make you sleepy about an hour or so before bed? Bananas, oatmeal, almonds, cheese, things of that nature? I'm not usually a proponent of eating so close to bed time, but in instances like this, foods that can make you sleepy could help.

Well, at the time I had to avoid food for 4 hours before bed because I was taking my thyroid pill and it had to be on an empty stomach. I've changed that now to taking it in the morning so it doesn't disrupt my sleep because I think that my body is aware of the medicine circulating within and it's bothering me. I'll keep in mind your hint though because I'm game for trying anything.

Well I'm glad you're not taking it at night, now, that's a good thing, hopefully your sleep has returned to normal! Absolutely, though, when you have trouble sleeping (and not on medicines that need an empty stomach :)) there are some great foods that can help to make you sleepy!
