Perfect Apple Dumplings

Perfect Apple Dumplings
1 1/4 cups shortening
3 cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
5 tablespoons water
1 egg, beaten
1 tablespoon vinegar
8 to 9 apples, peeled, cored and sliced
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 to 1 1/2 cups water
Cut shortening into 3 cups flour, 1/2 cup sugar and salt. In small bowl, combine 5 tablespoons water, egg and vinegar. Pour over flour mixture. Stir until dough is formed. On floured surface, roll out dough. Cut into square sections. Stir together 1 1/2 cups sugar, 1/2 cup flour and cinnamon. Pile apples on dough sections; sprinkle with sugar/flour mixture, spreading out over all. Bring up sides and place in 9 by 13 inch baking pan. Pour 1 to 1 1/2 cups water over apples. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour, or until dumplings are golden brown.
