Creamy Broccoli & Cheese

Creamy Broccoli & Cheese

Stella HickmanGooseberry Patch

A dear friend shared her mom's recipe with me...it comes from an Amish area in northeastern Ohio.

4 10-oz. pkgs. frozen broccoli

1 c. butter, divided

3-1/2 c. corn flake cereal, crushed

12-oz. pkg. cream cheese, cubed and divided

12 slices American cheese

Prepare broccoli according to package directions; drain well and set aside. Melt 1/2 cup butter; toss with cereal and set aside. Stir cream cheese and remaining butter together in a small saucepan over low heat until melted; remove from heat and set aside. Layer half the broccoli in an ungreased 2-quart casserole dish; spread half the cream cheese mixture on top. Arrange 6 slices of cheese on top; sprinkle with half the cereal mixture. Repeat layers one time; bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees for one hour. Makes 12 to 15 servings.
