Caramel Squares

1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. brown sugar, lightly packed
1 beaten egg yolk
1 1/4 c. sifted flour
Topping:
1 egg white
1 c. brown sugar, lightly packed
1 tsp. vanilla
1/8 tsp. salt
1 c. chopped nuts

Mix first 2. Stir in yolk, and beat well. Add flour. Mix well. Spread on bottom of greased 8” sq. pan. Make topping: beat egg white until stiff.
Blend in remaining. Spread over batter in pan. Bake at 350F about 30 min.
