I'm doing it currently in therapy for my complex PTSD, sexual abuse and BDP. It's a very effective treatment for PSTD, abuse and trauma and even dissociation. It's to know that it has already happened that way, and there's nothing that you could have done to prevent it and you're not to blame personally for it. And can it hurt your now physically speaking? No, because it's only in your mind that it can. Process that and change your feelings, behaviours and thoughts according to it. Very effective indeed for me personally.
