Spicy Squares

1 c. raisins
1 c. water
1 beaten egg
1/2 c. oil
1 3/4 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 c. chopped walnuts
1 c. sugar

Bring first 2 to a boil. Remove from heat. Stir in oil. Cool to lukewarm. Stir in sugar and egg. Sift dry ingredients together. Beat into raisin mixture. Stir in nuts. Pour into a greased 9x13" pan. Bake at 375F 20 min. Cool 10 min. Turn out and cool completely on a rack. Cut into squares. Sprinkle with confectioners sugar.
