SAVORY BAKED STEAK

2 lbs. round steak, bottom or top

Flour

6 tbsp. butter or oil

1 tsp. monosodium glutamate

Water

Salt and pepper

1/2 c. can button mushrooms



Dredge steak lightly with flour, shaking off any excess. Brown teak in hot butter or oil in heavy skillet; drain and remove to baking pan or dish. Measure hot oil remaining in skillet. For each 2 Tbsp; set aside. Two Tbsp flour and 1 cup water. Return oil to skillet, blend in flour, stirring constantly until rich brown. Stir in water, monosodium glutamate, salt and pepper to taste. Cook gravy to medium thickness. Pour gravy over steak, cover and bake at 350F for 1 1/2 hours or until meat is tender. Top with mushrooms during last 5 minutes of cooking. Serves 4-6.
