Orange Anise Squares

1/2 c. softened butter
2/3 c. sugar
2 large eggs
2 c. flour
1 Tbsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 c. milk
1 Tbsp. anise seed, crushed
1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/2 c. orange marmalade

Grease a 9" sq. pan. Beat butter, sugar and eggs in large mixer bowl until fluffy. Add dry ingredients and beat on low speed until moistened. Beat at med. speed until blended and fluffy. Pour into pan. Bake at 350F 30 min. until springs back when lightly touched. Remove from oven and spread with marmalade. Cut into squares and serve warm or cold.
