HOMEMADE GARLIC BREAD STICKS (makes a bakers dozen)

1 1/4 C. warm tap water

2 tsp. instant yeast (active works also)

1 1/2 T. sugar

3 T. butter, melted

2 1/2 - 3 C. all purpose flour

1 tsp. salt

1 tsp. garlic powder

Put the water in the bowl of a stand mixer, add the yeast and sugar. Allow to proof for 5 minutes. Add the melted butter, 2 C. of flour, salt and garlic powder. Begin mixing on low adding just enough more flour to form a soft dough that is just barely sticky to the touch. Continue mixing on low speed for 3 minutes. Remove the bowl and cover it with a clean cloth, letting the dough double in size (about an hour). Punch down the dough and turn out onto a lightly floured surface, kneading about a minute. Pinch off 13 pieces of dough and roll them into 6" strips. Place on a baking sheet and let them rise for 40 minutes. Bake in a 400F oven for 18-20 minutes, until lightly golden. Brush with the following once out of the oven.

4 T. melted butter, 1 T. grated parmesan cheese, 1/2 tsp. garlic salt, 1/4 tsp. dried parsley (combine well).
