Eating Disorder and genetics

TLDR: Eating Disorder and genetics
In the forum thread, Lammchen discusses personal and familial experiences with eating disorders, emphasizing that such disorders are not always the fault of the parents and may involve genetic factors, among other influences like media and socialization. Soulwatcher shares a related personal struggle with being overweight, attributing it partly to genetics but also highlighting personal efforts to address the issue through diet and exercise, noting a significant weight loss of 132 pounds. Both participants seem to agree on the influence of genetics in their health challenges and the importance of proactive personal management.
I had an eating disorder when I was a teenager and from time to time I still struggle with the thoughts even though I am now in control and not ED. My daughter had an eating disorder when she was in high school but hers was far worse than mine was.

One thing we learned when she was hospitalized that it's not the parents' fault! Sometimes it's actually genetics that play a part in who will have an eating disorder (besides things like the media and socializing).

Most of my family members are overweight on my dads side. So I would say that me being overweight is probably genetics. But I am doing something about it, I am dieting and exercising. It's hard work, but I already lost 132 pounds.
